Ruben Amorim has acknowledged the complaints from a number of Manchester United legends but has pushed back against suggestions that his tactical approach is to blame for the club\u2019s poor results. Wayne Rooney \u201cunleashed a scathing assessment of Amorim, insisting he no longer recognises his former employers,\u201d while Gary Neville and Peter Schmeichel have also questioned his decisions.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s normal, we cannot run away from the results,\u201d Amorim said in response to the mounting frustrations from famous club figures. \u201cAnd then you have the baggage from last season. But last season, for me, doesn\u2019t matter.\u201d<\/p>\n
Amorim emphasised that critics rarely single out formation when United win and urged analysis that focuses on the specifics of the defeats. \u201cIn relation to the system, we have already spoke about that,\u201d he continued. \u201cWe had six games this season and we lost three. And we have to look to the games we lost.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe lost against Arsenal, because of the system? It\u2019s your job to make the opinions. When you look at the game against [Manchester] City, was the first thing that you thought when the game started the system? I don\u2019t think you thought about the system in that moment.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd Brentford, the way we concede goals, create chances, that is nothing to do with the system, that is my opinion.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not saying this team would do better in a different system or not, that\u2019s not my point. My point is if I look at the games we didn\u2019t win, the most important thing when I watched the game is not [that] we lost because of the system. That is my opinion, then people have different opinions and that\u2019s OK.\u201d<\/p>\n
Amorim\u2019s comments follow public support from current players. Centre back Matthijs de Ligt challenged team members to take greater responsibility for the club\u2019s struggles, and Bryan Mbeumo also insisted the formation was not to blame.
