J\u00fcrgen Klopp says he does not plan to return to club management, at least for the foreseeable future, and has settled into a new position with Red Bull. The former Liverpool manager, whose departure from Anfield was announced in January 2024, has taken on the role of global head of soccer for the group and has moved to dampen speculation about imminent returns to the dugout.<\/p>\n
Klopp has been linked with several top-flight positions, most notably last April when he was tipped to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, but he offered a clear assessment of his present intentions to The Athletic. \u201cI don’t want to work as a coach anymore,\u201d Klopp emphatically told The Athletic. When asked whether that stance was definitive, he allowed for the possibility of change with age. \u201cThat\u2019s what I think,\u201d he clarified. \u201cBut you don\u2019t know. I\u2019m 58. If I started again at 65, everybody will say, \u2018You said you\u2019ll never do it again!\u2019 Er, sorry, I thought 100% (when I said it)! That is what I think now. I don\u2019t miss anything.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reflecting on his decision to step down, Klopp recalled his final months at Liverpool. \u201cI finished at Liverpool at 57. I was 100% certain and sure that I will not finish working. I had a break for seven months or so. I enjoyed it\u2014wow!\u201d He described a long managerial run that left little private life, saying, \u201cI missed nothing in my life because I never thought about it. So during almost 25 years, I twice went to a wedding\u2014one of them was mine and the other one was two months ago. In 25 years, I have been four times at the cinema\u2014all in the last eight weeks. It\u2019s now nice to be able to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n
In his advisory capacity at Red Bull, Klopp oversees operations at clubs including RB Leipzig, FC Salzburg and Paris FC. He outlined the model: \u201cWe are not the final destination. We are not Liverpool… or in former times Man Utd!\u201d he added with a hearty chuckle. \u201cYou can write that if you want.\u201d Recruitment under that structure is aimed at eventual profitable sales, a strategy Klopp applied at Liverpool when he bought the likes of Ibrahima Konat\u00e9, Dominik Szoboszlai and Naby Ke\u00efta.
