Chelsea are reported to have held back money during the summer transfer window specifically to allow for January investment if needed. That reserve of funds, according to the Daily Mail, leaves the club with scope to act in the winter window should squad needs demand reinforcement.<\/p>\n
The winter transfer period has often been subdued under BlueCo ownership. January 2023 produced a cluster of arrivals including Enzo Fern\u00e1ndez, Mykhailo Mudryk, Beno\u00eet Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Malo Gusto, Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana and six months of Jo\u00e3o F\u00e9lix. By contrast, the only signing across the last two windows was young midfielder Mathis Amougou, who arrived earlier this year and was sold to Strasbourg six months later.<\/p>\n
Chelsea have not traditionally prioritised January business, but persistent questions over parts of the squad could force action in 2026. One obvious area of concern is centre back after Levi Colwill\u2019s ACL injury left a significant gap. Manager Enzo Maresca has been at pains to remind those in charge of what he deems to be an insufficient list of alternatives, having clashed with club officials when he pushed for a replacement this summer.<\/p>\n
Goalkeeper is another position that could be revisited. Chelsea pursued AC Milan\u2019s Mike Maignan before the Club World Cup but walked away over a \u00a35 million difference in valuation. Maignan was keen to join and is approaching the final six months of his contract. Robert S\u00e1nchez is under pressure after an early red card in the defeat to Manchester United, while his replacement, Filip J\u00f6rgensen, hasn\u2019t covered himself in glory.<\/p>\n
The club could also create space through departures. Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi both continue to train away from the club ahead of what everybody involved hopes will be January exits.
