William Saliba has agreed fresh terms with Arsenal in a five-year contract that is expected to run until 2030, reports say. The Athletic say the deal will be formalised in the coming days and will end Real Madrid\u2019s hopes of a cut-price transfer.<\/p>\n
Approaching the final 18 months of his previous deal, Saliba occupied a strong position in negotiations. Talks over an extension first began in May and, in July, Saliba confirmed his interest in signing. The process is now almost complete and manager Mikel Arteta will be delighted to have secured the future of one of the most important players in his squad.<\/p>\n
Saliba\u2019s early time at Arsenal was unsettled. He was left out of the Gunners\u2019 Premier League squad for the 2020\u201321 season and subsequently spent 18 months on loan in France, where he firmly justified Arsenal\u2019s decision to spend \u00a327 million ($36.4 million) to secure his signature in 2019.<\/p>\n
Since returning to the first team he has become a mainstay. Saliba has made 139 appearances for Arsenal, with only five players having logged more minutes under Arteta to date.<\/p>\n
The expected extension will be the fourth high-profile contract agreement at the club this year. Centre back partner Gabriel Magalh\u00e3es signed a four-year deal in June. Just days later Myles Lewis-Skelly committed the next five years of his career to Arsenal. Ethan Nwaneri signed his new deal in August.<\/p>\n
