Paul Scholes delivered a blunt assessment of Marcus Rashford\u2019s conduct at Manchester United even as the forward produced a memorable European performance for Barcelona. Rashford has not played for United since December 2024 after Ruben Amorim froze him out of the first-team setup following questions about his attitude in training.<\/p>\n
Scholes addressed Rashford\u2019s recent brace for Barcelona against Newcastle United in the Champions League on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast. He acknowledged the quality of the performance but said his feelings were mixed. “There\u2019s no doubt the talent that kid has got, it\u2019s ridiculous, he\u2019s shown up in a big game, and that second goal was brilliant,” Scholes said. “I really struggled to feel happy for him, to feel pleased for him,” he added.<\/p>\n
That reluctance to congratulate Rashford sits alongside Scholes\u2019s sharp criticism of the England international\u2019s conduct at United. “Mainly because his attitude, his attitude at United. The time he was leaving, I thought it was just disgrace at United , not trying, basically. Look, if you fell out with a manager, then okay, but remember, you\u2019ve got teammates you\u2019re playing with.<\/p>\n
“You\u2019ve got a massive 80,000 there [at Old Trafford], whatever it is, every single week that you have to put a bit of effort in. The amount of times I saw him at United walking because he wants to leave, I thought his whole demeanour was a disgrace.<\/p>\n
“I think he actually quit on Manchester United. And once you quit once, you\u2019ll quit again.” <\/p>\n
Rashford\u2019s early weeks at Barcelona have also included a disciplinary setback. He was dropped for the club\u2019s league fixture against Getafe as punishment for lateness, with reports stating he was two minutes late. Hansi Flick brought him off the bench at half-time; Rashford later created Barcelona\u2019s third and final goal in a comfortable win.
