Luke Shaw acknowledged public criticism from club legend Roy Keane after Manchester United\u2019s 2\u20131 win over Chelsea, admitting the comments stung but describing them as part of the game.<\/p>\n
Keane, a seven-time Premier League champion, \u201chas never been one to pull punches when discussing his former club, or any club for that matter.\u201d Shaw said he \u201ctook it on the chin\u201d as United bounced back on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Shaw responded directly after the match, offering a measured assessment of his recent form.<\/p>\n
“Of course it hurts. He\u2019s got a lot of experience. He was one of the best captains ever for Man Utd. Sometimes you just have to take it on the chin. I think criticism is part of being a football player. I listen to it. But for me, I think he was right. I think that last week, I wasn\u2019t at my level at all.<\/p>\n
“I don\u2019t need Roy Keane to tell me. After the game, I knew that. The most important thing is knowing how good I can be. The manager knows that. I think the managers who I played with in the past know that. I\u2019m always in the team and I\u2019m always playing, so there must be something that the managers believe in,” Shaw said.<\/p>\n
Shaw has started every Premier League game so far this season as a left-sided centre back in Ruben Amorim\u2019s 3-4-2-1 system. He benefited from a full preseason following a run of injuries that limited him to just seven league appearances and five in the Europa League in 2024\u201325.<\/p>\n
United\u2019s second victory of the 2025\u201326 season was hard-fought. Robert S\u00e1nchez was sent off in the fifth minute for a reckless challenge outside the box. Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro scored in the first half, but Casemiro received a second yellow and was dismissed before the break. Chelsea reduced the deficit through Trevoh Chalobah in the second half, yet United held on for their second home win of the campaign.<\/p>\n
