Manchester United were among several Premier League clubs reported to have enquired about a loan for Atl\u00e9tico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher, but the move did not come to fruition. The Daily Mail claimed United had been interested in a temporary deal for the combative midfielder.<\/p>\n
Gallagher was considered as a potential replacement for Kobbie Mainoo after Mainoo threatened to force through a loan move following a fall out of favour under Ruben Amorim. Regardless of Mainoo\u2019s future, United continued to be linked with midfield reinforcements this summer.<\/p>\n
Other reported targets included Carlos Baleba, for whom Brighton & Hove Albion shut down an approach before anything concrete could be formed. There was also talk of Sporting CP\u2019s Morten Hjulmand and Crystal Palace controller Adam Wharton as possible options.<\/p>\n
Late contact from United on Deadline Day failed to materialise. Crystal Palace were one of the first teams this summer linked with an approach for Gallagher, who thrived for the Eagles during a loan spell in the 2021\u201322 campaign. Everton were another interested suitor to be named.<\/p>\n
At Atl\u00e9tico, Gallagher has not quite established himself as a regular starter under Diego Simeone. A midfielder with the nickname “Pitbull” naturally boasts some of the qualities admired by the Argentine, but he has yet to nail down a position in the side. Gallagher has been used in a variety of roles, shifting between defensive positions, all-action briefs and even out wide on the left.<\/p>\n
