Chelsea have completed a swift turnaround in their left-back options this summer, re-signing Ish\u00e9 Samuels-Smith just over a month after his permanent move to Strasbourg. The 19-year-old had joined Strasbourg on July 30 in a deal reported to be worth \u00a36.5 million, but his time in France lasted only weeks before he was back on Chelsea’s books.<\/p>\n
Samuels-Smith did not feature in the matchday squad for three of Strasbourg’s first five matches of the campaign. It was then arranged that he would make space for Ben Chilwell, who moved to Strasbourg on a permanent basis on Deadline Day, to join Swansea City on loan.<\/p>\n
That loan to the Swans has now been confirmed, and Chelsea announced that Samuels-Smith has rejoined the club on a permanent basis. Samuels-Smith will therefore continue his career back in English football after spending just over one month at Strasbourg.<\/p>\n
Chilwell’s exit followed a period of uncertainty. After spending the first half of last season out of favour, he joined Crystal Palace on loan for the second half of the campaign, returned to Chelsea this summer and, amid limited interest in the high-earner, was sent to Strasbourg, their sister side, on a permanent deal.<\/p>\n
