Chelsea cancelled Nicolas Jackson\u2019s proposed loan to Bayern Munich at the 11th hour after an injury to a squad striker forced a rapid reassessment. Jackson had travelled to Munich and was photographed celebrating with Bayern supporters as he prepared to undergo a medical, but The Athletic report Chelsea told the Bundesliga champions the deal would not be authorised.<\/p>\n
The change of plan followed Liam Delap limping off with a muscular problem in the early stages of a 2\u20130 win over Fulham, leaving Jo\u00e3o Pedro as the only recognised striker in the matchday squad. \u201cHopefully it\u2019s not long, but this kind of case can be six, eight weeks,\u201d Maresca told TNT Sports of Delap\u2019s injury shortly after the final whistle, before the Englishman had undergone any scans.<\/p>\n
In his post-match press conference Maresca indicated the club might seek another attacking option if Delap faces an extended spell on the sidelines. \u201cWhen you have two strikers it is enough, when one of them is injured for weeks it is not enough,\u201d Maresca said. \u201cToday we played for more than one hour with Tyrique [George] and he did brilliant.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe last time he played as a No. 9 was against Manchester United last year. We tried to use different solutions. If you remember there were some games where we used Pedro [Neto] as a No. 9. But for sure when you have two proper No. 9\u2019s it is enough.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jackson was in Munich when Chelsea\u2019s decision was made public and has been filmed celebrating what he believed was an imminent move to the Allianz Arena. He has now been asked to return to Stamford Bridge. Florian Plettenberg reports Jackson and his agent remain in Munich and are attempting to find a way to complete the transfer.<\/p>\n
