Chelsea have finalised the permanent departure of Christopher Nkunku, while Nicolas Jackson is set to join Bayern Munich on a loan billed as a record for a one-year temporary move.<\/p>\n
AC Milan confirmed the signing of the forward from Chelsea on Saturday in a deal believed to be worth as much as \u20ac42 million (\u00a336.4 million, $49.1 million). Chelsea added: “We thank Christo for his efforts throughout his time at the club and wish him well as he begins a new chapter in his career.”<\/p>\n
The Nkunku sale was driven in part by squad changes at Chelsea, with room created for other attacking additions. Nkunku\u2019s exit was followed quickly by agreement between Chelsea and Bayern over terms for Nicolas Jackson.<\/p>\n
Fabrizio Romano first reported that Bayern will pay a \u20ac15 million loan fee with an optional purchase clause set at \u20ac65 million. Chelsea will also retain a sell-on clause should Jackson make the move permanent. Sky Sports News noted that the \u20ac15 million fee would represent a record for a one-year loan deal, a detail Chelsea insisted on to avoid an obligatory purchase requirement.<\/p>\n
The claim that this is a record loan fee is not without dispute. Former Chelsea striker \u00c1lvaro Morata generated higher cumulative loan fees over longer arrangements. Juventus paid \u20ac10 million for his temporary arrival from Atl\u00e9tico Madrid in 2020 and then triggered an option to pay the same fee for another one-year loan 12 months later. Morata\u2019s departure from Chelsea in 2019 began with an 18-month loan worth a total of \u20ac18 million. Conflicting reports also exist around Giovani Lo Celso\u2019s 2019 loan to Tottenham Hotspur, with some sources suggesting Spurs paid as much as \u20ac16 million for that deal.<\/p>\n
