Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner left little doubt over Marc Gu\u00e9hi’s status as the transfer window approached its close. When asked whether Gu\u00e9hi would still be a Palace player at the end of the window Glasner was emphatic: \u201cHe has to.\u201d<\/p>\n
Glasner made clear he would not repeat the midwindow disruption that followed Eberechi Eze’s move to Arsenal. He described the practical difficulty of replacing his centre half on short notice, saying: \u201cIt is not possible to find a Marc Gu\u00e9hi replacement who can play straight in the Premier League,\u201d Glasner huffed at his press conference on Friday.<\/p>\n
That stance came as Palace were linked with a deal reported by Fabrizio Romano to sign Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse. The 19-year-old has 22 senior appearances and began his senior career only 11 months ago. Canvot was presented as a future prospect rather than an immediate like-for-like substitute for Palace’s on-pitch leader and regular England international.<\/p>\n
Gu\u00e9hi, 25, has not acted like a player attempting to force a move. In the face of scrutiny he has continued to play and perform. He captained the Eagles in Norway on Thursday night as Palace secured a 0\u20130 draw with Fredrikstad to reach the league phase of the Conference League.
