Newcastle United’s ownership held a face-to-face meeting with Alexander Isak that has not produced a positive outcome for any side, according to reports. The discussions, led by co-owner Jamie Reuben, aimed to find a compromise but did not result in Isak returning to the squad.<\/p>\n
Co-owner Jamie Reuben led a delegation of investors to have a meeting with Isak at his home in Northumberland before Monday\u2019s clash with Liverpool, the Daily Mail report, in an attempt to come to some form of compromise. David Ornstein of The Athletic told NBC Sports on the same day that Isak had \u201cno intention to reintegrate.\u201d<\/p>\n
Manager Eddie Howe has repeatedly offered to keep the door open for Isak to come back. He answered questions after the match, handling the issue from a limited position of involvement. \u201cI am not aware of a meeting with the owners but I have not been party to talks [about Isak\u2019s future] for a long time,\u201d the Magpies boss sighed after Monday\u2019s 3\u20132 defeat. \u201cI have been preparing the team, giving my energy to players who want to play for Newcastle. I have no idea where things [regarding Isak] stand.\u201d<\/p>\n
Howe also commented on the presence at St James\u2019 Park of chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who was seated beside Reuben. \u201cI don\u2019t know why he [Al-Rumayyan] is here,\u201d Howe shrugged. \u201cHis presence is much appreciated from my perspective. He is the owner and he is the most important person in terms of any decisions we make.\u201d<\/p>\n
Club figures have stressed that Isak is not for sale, while the player\u2019s position appears unchanged. Howe made clear the team\u2019s need for a resolution. \u201cWe want clarity to move forward and to change the narrative,\u201d the English boss lamented. \u201cWe have given two really good performances [without Isak or a senior striker] and ended up with one point.
