Arsenal have approached this summer with a clear intent to shake off the \u2018bridesmaid\u2019 label. The appointment of Andrea Berta as sporting director set expectations of a significant window, and the Italian has helped deliver an expensive summer of business. Only Liverpool have spent more than Arsenal so far, and the club may yet add to their incomings with the deadline approaching.<\/p>\n
The Gunners strengthened their squad with seven new signings, including the high-profile capture of Eberechi Eze from Tottenham Hotspur. Despite that recruitment, Mikel Arteta remains concerned by the limited defensive investment. Historically Arteta has looked to bolster his backline each summer, but Arsenal have signed only one defender in 2025: Valencia\u2019s Cristhian Mosquera. Mosquera\u2019s arrival has improved depth, yet supporters had hoped for one more attacking addition after Eze; Arteta appears set instead to focus on the left side of his defence.<\/p>\n
Bayer Leverkusen\u2019s Piero Hincapi\u00e9, who wants to leave Leverkusen and has been linked with a move to Arsenal\u2019s fierce north London rivals, is being explored as a left-sided defensive option. Hincapi\u00e9 can cover both left centre back and left back, offering a similar profile to Riccardo Calafiori and representing an upgrade on Arsenal\u2019s current depth. Any acceleration of a pursuit for the Ecuadorian, however, is dependent on outgoing business.<\/p>\n
Arsenal have struggled to move surplus players while their net spend rises. Leverkusen reportedly want around \u20ac60 million (\u00a352 million, $70.1 million) for Hincapi\u00e9, a fee that would push Arsenal\u2019s transfer outlay beyond the \u20ac350 million mark. The club are conscious of potential PSR pressure and are aiming to sell five players before the deadline. Porto have made an approach for Jakub Kiwior, while Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Reiss Nelson have all been available all summer; loans look likely for several of those.<\/p>\n
