The latest CIES Football Observatory report underlines how far Premier League spending has gone. With television money continuing to reshape the market, England\u2019s top flight now occupies most of the upper reaches of world football\u2019s costliest squads.<\/p>\n
CIES measured what clubs paid in transfer fees to assemble their current first teams for the 2026\/27 campaign, and the picture is striking. Liverpool top the global list at $1.43 billion, narrowly ahead of Man City on $1.4 billion. Tottenham follow on $1.36 billion, with Chelsea at $1.35 billion and Man Utd at $1.34 billion. Arsenal, despite sitting among the league\u2019s biggest spenders, are sixth on $1.26 billion.<\/p>\n
The Premier League\u2019s depth is just as notable as its summit. Newcastle appear in ninth at $999 million, while Aston Villa are 10th on $736 million. Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth also make the top 20, reinforcing the scale of spending across the division. In all, six of the seven most expensive rosters in world football belong to Premier League clubs, and 11 of the top 20 are from England\u2019s top flight.<\/p>\n
Outside England, Real Madrid are the priciest squad at $1.18 billion, followed by Paris Saint-Germain at $1.06 billion. Bayern Munich lead the way in Germany at $688 million, while Juventus are Italy\u2019s highest-ranked club at $674 million. Bayer Leverkusen have climbed to 15th at $630 million.<\/p>\n
There are also reminders of how clubs arrive at these totals. Man City spent $617 million to rebuild their midfield this summer, while Spurs added more than $405 million worth of new signings. Liverpool, meanwhile, further raised their total with Bradley Barcola\u2019s $163 million move at the end of August.<\/p>\n
Barcelona\u2019s current roster cost $623 million and sits 16th globally, with La Masia still central to their model.
