Liverpool will be without Jeremie Frimpong until after the international break after the Dutch right-back picked up a hamstring issue in the opening match of the champions\u2019 title defence. Frimpong started at right-back in the 4-2 win over Bournemouth but was withdrawn on medical advice.<\/p>\n
Manager Arne Slot confirmed Conor Bradley could be the immediate alternative. Bradley returned to first-team training on Thursday for the first time after missing the match against the Cherries and has trained “for a few minutes” with the group. “Conor trained with us for a few minutes today for the first time,” Slot said.<\/p>\n
Slot explained the decision to remove Frimpong during the Bournemouth game and praised the medical team. “The medical team was completely right about Jeremie to take him off because he’s out until the end of the international break. We felt Jeremie had an issue in his hamstring – the medical team did. They were right. A good call from them, as otherwise he could have been out for even longer.”<\/p>\n
Despite the current absence, Slot pointed to Frimpong’s previous fitness record at Celtic and Bayer Leverkusen when assessing his likely availability beyond the break. “Jeremie has a very positive injury record,” Slot added.<\/p>\n
Slot also provided context on the squad’s wider fitness picture and the handling of other players. “Conor has been out once or twice last season. These things happen. We only have two injuries at the same moment but they are in the same position. Wata, Dominik Szoboszlai.”<\/p>\n
Joe Gomez remains under careful management as he progresses from his own injury. Slot said the defender will be assessed on Monday as a potential option to cover at right-back. “Gomez hasn’t had a setback but he wasn’t able to train three days in a row,” Slot said. “We will see where he is on Monday and if he can start.
