Chelsea\u2019s handling of Kendry P\u00e1ez has taken another difficult turn, with Xabi Alonso making clear the teenager is not in his first-team thinking for the moment.<\/p>\n
The club paid about $22 million, or \u00a317.4 million, to sign P\u00e1ez from Independiente del Valle in the summer of 2023, when he was only 15. Since then, the pathway that once looked so promising has narrowed sharply.<\/p>\n
A loan move to Strasbourg in 2025 was meant to keep his development moving. Chelsea retained some unofficial control over his role, and the arrangement began brightly enough when P\u00e1ez was voted Ligue 1\u2019s best young player in September 2025. But the momentum did not last. His time in France deteriorated under Liam Rosenior and the loan was ended early.<\/p>\n
At the time, Rosenior said: \u201cWe expect more, clearly,\u201d Rosenior confessed at the time. \u201cI\u2019m tired of using the excuse of the players\u2019 youth.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chelsea then turned to River Plate for an 18-month loan intended to steady the situation. That spell also ended sooner than planned. After seven months and only 461 minutes on the pitch, P\u00e1ez was sent back again.<\/p>\n
The reasons behind the decline at both clubs have not been formally confirmed. Reports pointed to concerns over his work ethic and personal habits, while Michel Deller offered a sobering assessment of the player\u2019s situation.<\/p>\n

Jorge C\u00e9lico was equally direct when speaking to DSports : \u201cHe didn\u2019t play for the U-20 team in the World Cup. That means skipping stages you should complete in your development.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn my opinion, Kendry isn\u2019t being properly advised. He has the talent. I coached him in the U-17s. Technically, he\u2019s very good and has excellent vision. He\u2019s a player who\u2019s going to break out because he has so much talent.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chelsea have now used all their overseas loan slots, and with the domestic window closed, P\u00e1ez cannot leave on another temporary deal until January at the earliest. A permanent sale remains possible in theory, but it appears unlikely.
