Those are three useful GW4 decisions, but each depends on the players you own. A good purchase for a new buyer can still be a poor use of a transfer for an existing owner.

The GW4 deadline is 12 September at 12:30 UTC. You have time to check fitness and expected starts before committing. The numbers below cover the first three league matches of 2026/27, so use them to assess the picks alongside their roles and fixtures.

Szoboszlai owners can keep the Fulham fixture

Szoboszlai costs £7.0m and has played all 270 minutes. His 0.56 expected goal involvements per 90 minutes, or xGI/90, gives owners a sound reason to keep him for Fulham at Anfield in GW4. He ranks first for penalties, direct free kicks and corners or indirect free kicks. Those rankings describe current responsibilities; they do not guarantee he will take the next set piece.

Wirtz costs £7.4m and has recorded 0.36 xGI/90 across 242 minutes. His owners can take encouragement from two consecutive 90-minute appearances after 62 minutes in GW1. Selling before Fulham needs a stronger reason than disappointment with his opening returns.

For a fresh purchase between the pair, we prefer Szoboszlai. You save £0.4m, gain the stronger early expected involvement and buy a player who has completed all three matches. For a Wirtz owner, switching means spending a transfer to retain exposure to the same fixture. Keeping Wirtz and addressing a weaker position can be the better move.

Liverpool then visit Bournemouth in GW5 and host Manchester City in GW6. Decide how long you want to own either midfielder before buying. A planned GW6 Wildcard gives you a clear opportunity to reassess after two fixtures; a longer hold requires more confidence in the player through the mixed schedule. You can map those transfers across future Gameweeks with We Play FPL before making changes to your live squad.

Ødegaard has the stronger case for a new Arsenal midfield slot

If you have chosen to buy an Arsenal midfielder in this price bracket, the extra £0.2m for Ødegaard looks worthwhile. At £6.6m, he has produced 0.84 xGI/90 across 221 minutes. Tzolis costs £6.4m and has managed 0.23 across 210 minutes. Ødegaard has also collected six bonus points to Tzolis’ one.

That is an encouraging start, with a clear limitation: Ødegaard has played 75, 70 and 76 minutes. Budget for substitutions when assessing his upside. Tzolis has played 75, 45 and 90 minutes, so neither player’s opening record supports assuming a full match each week.

Arsenal visit Sunderland in GW4, visit Brighton in GW5 and host Leeds in GW6. Ødegaard is our preference for a new purchase through that window, provided the extra spend leaves your squad in good shape. His early involvement gives you more to work with than hoping Tzolis repeats a recent return.

Existing Tzolis owners can hold for Sunderland. The gap in early numbers does not tell you how many points a switch will earn in the next match, and three appearances leave plenty of room for the picture to change. Reassess if the minutes or role change; avoid spending the transfer because another Arsenal midfielder has started better.

Give Calvert-Lewin the two home matches

Calvert-Lewin owners have Newcastle at home in GW4 and Crystal Palace at home in GW5 before Leeds visit Arsenal in GW6. At £6.0m, he has generated 0.58 xG/90 and 0.61 xGI/90 across 252 minutes. He also ranks first for penalties.

Keep him for those two home fixtures if he remains fit and your chip plan does not reset the squad. You retain a forward with encouraging early chance involvement and preserve a transfer for another position. Selling him requires a replacement who improves your wider plan enough to justify giving up both fixtures.

His latest appearance lasted 72 minutes after two full matches. Check for fitness news and any change in his expected starts before the deadline. That shorter outing deserves attention, but it does not erase the case for holding him through GW5.

Use the transfer where your squad needs it

For new buyers, our preferences are Szoboszlai over Wirtz and Ødegaard over Tzolis, subject to budget and expected minutes. Owners have more room to keep the useful GW4 fixtures and direct their transfer elsewhere. Calvert-Lewin has a two-week home run worth retaining.

Review fitness and likely minutes before the deadline, then compare your current squad with the proposed changes. Make the move if it improves the next few weeks enough to justify the transfer and any later exit you will need.

Szoboszlai or Wirtz, Ødegaard or Tzolis, and Calvert-Lewin’s two home fixtures: the GW4 moves worth making depend on who you own.

[2031,173,1977
1984
post-19298","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-fixtures-epl","category-fpl","category-player-analysis","tag-gameweek-4
["GET
