Arsenal completed two youth additions from Manchester United across the weekend, bringing in James Scanlon on Saturday before confirming Habeeb Ogunneye\u2019s arrival on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Both players are still at the start of their careers. Scanlon, who turns 20 next month, and Ogunneye, who is 21 in November, are each expected to join the fringes of the first team and push for a breakthrough in time. Neither made a senior appearance for Manchester United, although both were named on the first-team bench and both also gained experience in the EFL League Two last season through loan spells.<\/p>\n
The moves stand in contrast to the earlier transfer of Ayden Heaven, who left Arsenal for Manchester United in January 2025 at the age of 18 in search of a clearer route into senior football. Since then, the centre back has played 25 senior matches, a run that suggests the move has already supported his development.<\/p>\n
Scanlon arrived after a youth path that began at Derby County before he moved to Manchester at 14. Born and raised in England\u2019s East Midlands, he appears to have been encouraged by Arsenal\u2019s recent Premier League success and the club\u2019s broader direction.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think you can see where the club\u2019s at, [it\u2019s] really positive and I think it\u2019s only going to get better,\u201d the teenager told Arsenal\u2019s in-house media .<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can see that everyone here is hungrier for more, hungrier to get better and I think that\u2019s something I believe I can add to and want to be a part of as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Scanlon, who plays on the left or as a No. 10, is already a Gibraltar international with 24 caps and describes himself as a \u201ccreative player\u201d who likes to \u201cscore goals, assist.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ogunneye, a right back from London, spent 15 years with Manchester United and said Arsenal\u2019s pathway for young players helped sway his decision.<\/p>\n
“When I heard [Arsenal] were interested in me, I said to my agents it\u2019s a no-brainer,\u201d Ogunneye explained . \u201cSeeing all the young players that are coming through as well, I just wanted to come straight away. I just wanted to be part of that group, and win games together. It\u2019s good playing with good players, good defenders; it\u2019s only going to better you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Myles Lewis-Skelly, Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri have all made the step up from Hale End in recent seasons, while Bukayo Saka was also 18 when he became a regular in the senior side in 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
