Liverpool’s move for Bradley Barcola has reached its final financial stage, and the repercussions could extend beyond one incoming winger. The club are understood to have settled the payment structure for the Paris Saint-Germain wide man, with The Athletic reporting an initial outlay of $143.5 million (£106 million) and a further $23 million (£17 million) available in add-ons linked to performance.

Barcola, 24, is due to complete a medical over the weekend before signing a five-year contract. His arrival is designed to address Liverpool’s shortage of reliable options in the wide attacking roles, a problem that has become more pronounced since Mohamed Salah’s departure. Even so, the signing does not fully solve the lack of a natural right-sided winger.

That uncertainty has direct consequences for Cody Gakpo. The forward has been linked with a move away from Merseyside throughout the summer, and interest has intensified in recent weeks. Tottenham Hotspur were among the first clubs to show strong interest, and they remain in the frame despite adding Sávio and Omar Marmoush from Manchester City.

Manchester City are also monitoring the situation. After losing two forwards, they view Gakpo as a player who could offer cover in wide areas and possibly provide support behind Erling Haaland. The Times have reported that both clubs “continue to track” him before the Sep. 1 deadline, while Liverpool are said to want as much as $115.1 million (£85 million) for a sale.

Liverpool are not actively seeking to move him on, but a major offer could alter that stance. Gakpo has started the new term with a goal and assist in the opening two matches of Andoni Iraola’s debut season, yet his form during 2025-26 raised concerns after he finished with nine goals in all competitions.

Even so, Liverpool would be taking a risk by allowing one of their more experienced attacking players to leave this late in the window, especially without a ready-made replacement. Federico Chiesa has struggled with injuries and form, Rio Ngumoha is still only 18, and both Barcola and Victor Muñoz will need time to settle. Without a right-sided alternative, selling Gakpo would leave the squad exposed.
