Chelsea\u2019s latest move involving Nicolas Jackson has drawn attention not just for the player, but for the numbers behind it. In isolation, it is another example of a club turning an underwhelming sporting outcome into a sizeable financial gain.<\/p>\n
Jackson showed flashes of ability during his time at Stamford Bridge, but neither Mauricio Pochettino nor Enzo Maresca managed to iron out the rougher parts of his game. Over his first two seasons, the forward scored 24 Premier League goals. His final stretch at the club was especially striking: in his last 15 league appearances, he collected as many red cards as goals, one of each.<\/p>\n
Chelsea first improved their position by loaning him to Bayern Munich last season. That agreement included a guaranteed fee of $19.2 million, an unusually strong return for a temporary move.
