Tottenham Hotspur have found a way to bring in Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush, with the club reaching an agreement that uses a loan first and a larger payment later.<\/p>\n
The move comes during a summer of heavy change for Spurs, after a difficult campaign left them needing significant reinforcement. Roberto De Zerbi has been given major backing, with Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke all arriving for sizeable fees, while S\u00e1vio has also joined the club. Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin D\u00fabravka have been added on free transfers.<\/p>\n
BBC Sport have confirmed that Marmoush is set to become the next addition in N17, offering extra depth to a forward group that has been short on options and affected by injuries. That issue was underlined in Tottenham\u2019s opening 3\u20130 Premier League defeat to Brentford last weekend, when the attack failed to score.<\/p>\n
The agreement with City is understood to begin with a season-long loan. Tottenham will then be required to pay $81.7 million (\u00a360 million) for the 27-year-old next summer.<\/p>\n
The structure is important for a club that has already spent $413.8 million on transfers this summer after the recent completion of the S\u00e1vio deal. Spreading the cost of Marmoush should help Tottenham stay in line with the Premier League\u2019s Squad Cost Ratio rules, which cap spending at 85 per cent of soccer-related revenue plus player sales.<\/p>\n
Tottenham\u2019s outlay has been driven by major fees for Tonali ($133.8 million), Fernandes ($113.7 million) and Van Hecke ($69.6 million), although some money has come back through departures. Luka Vu\u0161kovi\u0107 ($61.7 million), Cristian Romero ($46.3 million) and Djed Spence ($34.6 million) have all been sold, while academy exits have brought in just over $40 million.<\/p>\n
There is still a degree of risk attached to Marmoush. He scored 16 goals in 62 appearances for City and spent much of that time behind Erling Haaland. Only 37 of those games came in the Premier League, where he scored 10.<\/p>\n
Even so, his versatility is clearly valued. Marmoush has long operated as a left winger, was developed into a striker at Eintracht Frankfurt and has also played at No.9 at the Etihad Stadium.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
