Marcus Rashford has been back around Manchester United for only a fortnight, yet the scrutiny surrounding him has already returned in full. The winger has made it clear he wants to work in peace, saying he would prefer to \u201cget [his] head down and play\u201d rather than have every detail of his movements dissected.<\/p>\n
That pressure has followed Rashford through much of his senior United career, and it has only intensified after his fallout with Ruben Amorim and the subsequent exit. With the Premier League season beginning at the weekend, his name has been pushed into the spotlight once again.<\/p>\n
The subject even surfaced on the latest Stick to Football podcast when Gary Neville raised Rashford\u2019s name. Jamie Carragher quickly cut across the discussion, saying, \u201cCan we do a podcast without mentioning Rashford? Stop it. Oh my God.\u201d Rashford responded on social media with a message of appreciation. \u201cThanks, Jamie,\u201d the 28-year-old wrote on X. \u201cIt would be great to be able to get my head down and play football without my name being mentioned every day.\u201d<\/p>\n
His situation remains shaped by what happened last season, when he recorded 14 goals and 11 assists with Barcelona and wanted to stay in Catalonia in 2026-27. The defending Spanish champions did not activate his $35 million (\u20ac30 million) buy clause, sending him back to Old Trafford. Arsenal were among the clubs linked with him, but for the moment he appears set to remain with the Red Devils.<\/p>\n
Michael Carrick, speaking before United\u2019s league opener against Hull City on Saturday, gave Rashford a strongly positive assessment. \u201cIt\u2019s been pretty obvious since Marcus came back training with Kobbie [Mainoo] and Licha [Lisandro Mart\u00ednez] pretty much, in Dublin, that he\u2019s come back fantastically well,\u201d Carrick said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s enjoying his football. He looks fit, he looks sharp, he looks strong. He looks ready to play football. So, I\u2019ve been delighted with him since he\u2019s come back.\u201d<\/p>\n
Carrick also pointed to Rashford\u2019s flexibility across the frontline. \u201cOf course [Rashford] can play through in the middle. He has done,\u201d the manager said. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t say it’s naturally his number-one position, but he can do that, and I think we\u2019ve got forwards that give us that flexibility right across the frontline. We\u2019ve used all of them, pretty much, in slightly different roles.<\/p>\n
