Tottenham Hotspur’s search for attacking reinforcements is still unresolved, and the delay has opened the door to another familiar name. Chelsea winger Pedro Neto is now being viewed as a possible alternative if the club cannot complete their main target.

The club knew this summer would demand premium spending after narrowly avoiding relegation last season. To convince players to join Roberto De Zerbi’s project, Tottenham have already had to push beyond their comfort zone. They twice broke their transfer record to bring in Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, while Jan Paul van Hecke was also signed to replace Cristian Romero, who is now working under Diego Simeone at Atlético Madrid. Yet Tottenham have not added to their total outlay of more than $313 million since Tonali’s move from Newcastle United was confirmed on July 6.

With the Premier League season approaching, frustration among supporters has grown.

Savinho has been on Tottenham’s radar for a year. Manchester City blocked his departure last summer after a $70 million deal had been discussed, and the club have returned for him again after a subdued 2025-26 campaign at the Etihad Stadium. The Times reports that City have repeatedly shifted their valuation, with the deal now said to be worth as much as $115.7 million (£84.5 million).

He remains the priority, but Tottenham are preparing for the possibility that the move does not happen. Fabrizio Romano had already indicated that Pedro Neto could fit into Roberto De Zerbi’s plans, and he has since reinforced that view.

Al Hilal and Tottenham are the two sides in the race for the Chelsea winger after Manchester City were priced out. BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella says Chelsea value Neto at $136 million (£100 million).

Neto, 26, recorded 20 goal contributions in 52 appearances across all competitions in 2025-26, the most productive season of his career. Even so, his valuation remains difficult to justify.

Sky Sports News’ Lyall Thomas reports that, ideally, three new forwards will arrive before the window closes. Savinho and Gakpo are the leading names, with Neto in reserve. Tottenham also want a centre-forward, though they have yet to find an alternative to Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi after his foot surgery in July. Savinho is still expected to join, while any move for Gakpo may depend on Liverpool signing Bradley Barcola.
