Liverpool\u2019s interest in two Paris Saint-Germain wingers has gathered pace, but the route to landing both players remains steep. Luis Enrique has made it clear he will not hold anyone against their wishes, a stance that has only added to the discussion around Liverpool\u2019s pursuit.<\/p>\n
The need is obvious enough. Liverpool are looking to strengthen wide areas after no winger managed more than seven league goals for the club last season. That has helped frame the interest in Mbaye and Barcola, with speculation around the younger option the fresher of the two.<\/p>\n
Enrique set out his position earlier this month: \u201cWe are a very young, very ambitious team,\u201d Enrique told assembled media earlier this month. \u201cIt is important for us to make changes and look for players who enjoy playing our way and who love playing for PSG.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen a player doesn\u2019t want to come here, or doesn\u2019t have a smile on their face about being here, it is better to find another solution.\u201d<\/p>\n
Barcola\u2019s recent involvement has done little to calm the noise. He failed to come off the bench in last week\u2019s UEFA Super Cup victory over Aston Villa, and was an unused substitute in just two of his 51 matchday squad appearances last season. Neither he nor Mbaye made the bench for PSG\u2019s 1-0 defeat to Lens in Sunday\u2019s Troph\u00e9e des Champions.<\/p>\n
Reporting from L\u2019\u00c9quipe suggested Liverpool were preparing an offer for Mbaye, who has been valued at between $46.3 million and $57.9 million (\u20ac40-50 million). Fabrizio Romano later indicated that PSG\u2019s price is too high for Liverpool.<\/p>\n
Mbaye is understood to like the Merseyside project, as is Barcola, but the stumbling block for the latter is the fee. PSG are said to want $196.3 million (\u00a3145 million) for the 23-year-old, while Liverpool are reportedly prepared to go to $135.4 million (\u00a3100 million).<\/p>\n
PSG\u2019s other business may help Liverpool\u2019s hand. With Ferran Torres, Mika Godts and Maghnes Akliouche among those added to a frontline already featuring Ousmane Demb\u00e9l\u00e9, D\u00e9sir\u00e9 Dou\u00e9 and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, competition is fierce.
