Chelsea are poised to move beyond the \u20ac300 million mark in summer spending if their deal for Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace is completed as reported.<\/p>\n
Following discussions at ownership level, an agreement has been reached with Palace for the defender in a transfer worth about \u00a352 million, according to The Athletic. Palace were believed to be holding out for \u00a360 million, but the expected fee still represents a substantial return on a player they signed for only \u00a318 million from Wolfsburg two years ago.<\/p>\n
Lacroix would become Chelsea\u2019s seventh addition of a window already packed with activity. Deals for Geovany Quenda, Emmanuel Emegha and Dastan Satpaev had been previously confirmed before official completion this summer, while Marco Palestra and Morgan Rogers have also been added as part of Chelsea\u2019s expensive rebuild under new manager Xabi Alonso.<\/p>\n
The scale of the spending is familiar territory for Chelsea. Their reputation for heavy investment dates back to the Roman Abramovich era, but the inflation of the transfer market and BlueCo\u2019s desire to \u201cdisrupt\u201d it have pushed several records higher. This would be the fourth time in five summers that Chelsea have gone past the \u20ac300 million threshold.<\/p>\n
That level of outlay comes at a time when financial rules have already brought points deductions for other Premier League sides, yet Chelsea have avoided any sporting punishment. A revolving exit door has helped them balance the books.<\/p>\n
Since BlueCo\u2019s first summer in charge, when transfer planning was shaped by Thomas Tuchel and co-owner Toddy Boehly, Chelsea have spent around $2.2 billion, the most of any club in the world.
