Brentford will start the Premier League season without Yoane Wissa after the forward was omitted from the squad for the opening game against Nottingham Forest.<\/p>\n
The decision comes as transfer activity around Wissa intensifies. Newcastle are weighing up a \u00a335m bid for the 28-year-old, who scored 19 Premier League goals last season and has made clear his desire to play Champions League football. Brentford have been prepared to consider offers as talks progress.<\/p>\n
At the same time Brentford have had a club-record \u00a342.5million bid accepted for Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth. Ouattara has travelled to London to undergo a medical and is expected to arrive as Brentford\u2019s incoming option to replace Wissa.<\/p>\n
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews addressed the situation at his pre-match press conference on Thursday and explained the decision to leave Wissa out. \u201cWe\u2019ve made a decision that he\u2019s not ,\u201d Andrews said.<\/p>\n
Newcastle\u2019s interest in Wissa follows activity elsewhere as the club seek reinforcements up front. Alexander Isak has been left out of Newcastle\u2019s squad for their opening game against Aston Villa. The Swedish striker scored 23 Premier League goals last season, is adamant he wants to leave Newcastle and is angling for a move to Premier League champions Liverpool. Isak is expected to be fined for every competitive match he misses while on strike.<\/p>\n
Brentford had been keen not to lose Wissa after the departures of Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard this summer. However, with a deal for Ouattara imminent, the club appear more relaxed about letting Wissa move on if a suitable agreement is reached.<\/p>\n
