Xabi Alonso has made clear there are sharply different courses for Enzo Fern\u00e1ndez and Alejandro Garnacho as Chelsea moves through the remainder of the summer window.<\/p>\n
On Fern\u00e1ndez, Alonso refused to discuss details of a private conversation. \u201cWe spoke, but what we spoke about remains private.\u201d The manager did, however, signal it is his preference that Fern\u00e1ndez remains at Stamford Bridge. Fern\u00e1ndez was suspended by Chelsea for two matches last season as a direct result of his uncomfortably conspicuous pining for Real Madrid.<\/p>\n
Javier Pastore, who represents Fern\u00e1ndez in the market, said at the start of July that \u201cpossibilities to leave Chelsea\u201d are being considered and spoke positively about life in Madrid. Real Madrid publicly distanced themselves from any approach. Outside Madrid it is unclear what realistic options Fern\u00e1ndez would have. Paris Saint-Germain remain tenuously linked, although there is no obvious place for him in a midfield already boasting Vitinha, Jo\u00e3o Neves, Fabi\u00e1n Ruiz and Warren Za\u00efre-Emery. Even the brief interest reported from Manchester City last season under Maresca is not thought to have lasted.<\/p>\n
Garnacho\u2019s situation is fundamentally different. The former Manchester United winger is free to leave. He left Old Trafford last summer under a cloud after a period that had seen him frustrate supporters. Poached from Atl\u00e9tico Madrid aged 16, he had been the jewel of the United academy before Chelsea signed him after he had just turned 21. Chelsea hoped the move would be a home run, but one season in it appears to have fallen short.<\/p>\n
Alonso was candid about Garnacho\u2019s future. \u201cWe have spoken with the sporting directors, and there is interest from him, from other clubs, so let\u2019s see how it develops,\u201d he said. \u201cHopefully it finishes in the best possible way for all parties,\u201d the manager added. Garnacho started 17 times across the Premier League and Champions League last season and scored eight goals, six of which came in domestic cup competitions. He was not selected for the World Cup by Argentina and has not rejoined Chelsea for preseason as his representatives arrange a transfer.
