Chelsea have reached an internal agreement to extend Marc Cucurella\u2019s deal, with reports saying the left-sided defender has signed new paperwork. Fabrizio Romano reports Chelsea have “completed the agreement” with Cucurella. The 27-year-old\u2019s existing contract runs until 2028 and he is described as an important player for the present and future and a team leader behind the scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The club has also secured longer-term continuity in its sporting structure. Sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, alongside recruitment officials Joe Shields and Sam Jewell, have signed extensions to 2031. Those contracts are being framed as a “show of faith” and “recognition” for work carried out amid criticism of recruitment in the early BlueCo revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chelsea have balanced heavy spending with profitable sales. This summer the club offloaded five unwanted players for a minimum of \u00a320 million each and agreed a deal with Arsenal for Noni Madueke worth up to \u00a352 million. Those funds helped finance incoming signings including Jo\u00e3o Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, Liam Delap and Est\u00eav\u00e3o while keeping net spend comparatively low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Plans on further reinforcement may accelerate after a serious injury to Levi Colwill. The 22-year-old was hurt in the club\u2019s first training session back at Cobham and is likely to miss the majority of 2025-26 after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament. Manager Enzo Maresca addressed the situation directly and outlined the club\u2019s options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You know how important Levi has been for us last season, for the way we want to play. We said many times that we are able to create chances and to attack in the right way, if we are able to build in the right way. Levi was a huge part of our build-up and now he is out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are trying to find a solution internally, but the club knows exactly what I think and we will see what happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I think we need a central defender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Italian added: “We build with Levi in the middle. Last year, we played 64 games and we played 64 games with Levi and Tosin. Now Levi is out, the only one that can do that job well is Tosin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
