Brentford have confirmed Yoane Wissa will not be part of the squad for Sunday\u2019s season opener at Nottingham Forest. The forward has been the focus of transfer interest, with Newcastle reported to be weighing up a \u00a335million bid.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve made a decision that he\u2019s not ,\u201d Andrews said of the Congolese.<\/p>\n
The club\u2019s director of football, Phil Giles, held talks with Wissa after the striker returned to London, during which Wissa made clear his desire to leave the Gtech Community Stadium. Andrews addressed the effect the speculation has had on pre-season and on selection plans.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s been a very disruptive pre-season with the interest. The message is clear, I want him in the building, I want him to be part of the first-team squad. I see that moving forward but I’m very understanding of his situation. I have a good relationship with him and that will persist.<\/p>\n
“But we have to focus on the players that are ready to perform on Sunday and Yoane isn\u2019t in that space.”<\/p>\n
Brentford have positioned themselves firmly in the market to resist departures. The club, which has lost Christian Norgaard, Bryan Mbeumo and Thomas Frank this summer, has placed a \u00a350m valuation on Wissa. That figure underpins decisions to reject a \u00a325m offer from Newcastle last month and an approach in the region of \u00a320m from Nottingham Forest. Tottenham also made an enquiry earlier in the window.<\/p>\n
Wissa is Brentford\u2019s record Premier League goalscorer and was reported to be frustrated after believing he had been given assurances last year that a summer exit would be possible. The west London club, however, have made clear they do not want to let him go at present.<\/p>\n
