Lille president Olivier L\u00e9tang has made clear that any club hoping to sign 18-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi will face a significant financial challenge. Interest in the defensive midfielder surged during the World Cup and clubs from across Europe have been linked, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and others.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany clubs are interested in him, but very few can afford him right now,\u201d L\u00e9tang told Eurosport. \u201cHe\u2019s already one of the best midfielders in the world and still has significant room for improvement. L\u00e9tang refused to cite a precise number but used recent high-profile sales as a valuation reference. \u201cHave I spoken, brought up the subject, given a figure? No, never.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have to look at his level. How much have players like Anderson or Tonali been sold for, who are much older, but without room for improvement. So, you have an idea of the value of Ayyoub, who has a unique profile at only 18 years old.\u201d<\/p>\n
By invoking the fees paid for Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali, L\u00e9tang set a high benchmark; those moves cost $155 million and $133.6 million respectively. Any summer departure for Bouaddi, the president implied, would require a very large fee.<\/p>\n
Bouaddi is notably young for his experience.
