Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Cristian Romero will be the club\u2019s new captain following the departure of Son Heung-min to Los Angeles FC. The Argentina international moves up from his previous role as vice-captain and takes the armband after establishing himself as a central figure since his arrival from Atalanta in 2021.<\/p>\n
Romero will lead the side as permanent captain for the first time in Wednesday\u2019s UEFA Super Cup clash with Paris Saint-Germain. The appointment follows Son Heung-min\u2019s transfer to MLS side Los Angeles FC, which left the captaincy vacant at the start of the new campaign.<\/p>\n

“I think he has all the right qualities. He leads from his behaviour on the pitch, driving the team forward in every way, and outside the pitch he\u2019s always pushing the team.<\/p>\n
“I want a leadership group as well. Of course, one will wear the armband and be the captain, but I would like to have as many leaders as possible, four to five in the leadership group who can help, because it\u2019s the same with me, I can\u2019t do everything on my own and need a superb coaching staff around me.<\/p>\n
“I will name that leadership group after the window to give me time to assess everything.”<\/p>\n
