Crystal Palace face a possible summer sale of vice-captain Marc Gu\u00e9hi if the defender refuses to sign a new deal, chairman Steve Parish has warned.<\/p>\n
Parish delivered his comments after Palace\u2019s Community Shield triumph over Liverpool when asked whether the club would be prepared to sell. \u201cWe\u2019d have to do that, of course,\u201d the chairman sighed.<\/p>\n
The club are believed to want in the region of \u00a340 million ($53.9 million) for the 25-year-old. Several top-flight teams have been linked with Gu\u00e9hi, with Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur all credited with interest, while Liverpool are reported as favourites. The Daily Mail claim that the two clubs held advanced discussions over the same weekend as the Community Shield.<\/p>\n
Parish underlined the financial dilemma facing Palace and recalled recent departures. \u201cFor players of that calibre to leave on a free, it\u2019s a problem for us unfortunately. [Last summer] Joachim [Anderson] went [to Fulham] and we couldn\u2019t afford to lose both. We then had another bid in January but that was a different situation. We\u2019ll just have to see what happens. But, you know, it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.\u201d<\/p>\n
The chairman also addressed the wider uncertainty surrounding other key players at Selhurst Park. Eberechi Eze remains a widely admired squad member, and Arsenal and Tottenham are both thought to be showing interest in the attacking midfielder. On squad continuity Parish said: \u201cAs far as people being here or not being here, it depends,\u201d Parish cryptically offered. \u201cIf it\u2019s the right decision for the football club and for them, nobody can make anyone go, then there\u2019ll be some changes.\u201d<\/p>\n
