Several players have left La Liga for the Premier League this summer, among them Martin Zubimendi and Thierno Barry. The latest confirmed move involves Getafe centre-back Omar Alderete, who is set to complete a transfer to newly-promoted Sunderland.<\/p>\n
Previously linked with Tottenham Hotspur, Alderete will not be joining the London club. As reported by Diario AS, Sunderland and Getafe have agreed terms and Alderete is due to travel to the north east of England to undergo medical tests before the move is finalised. Sunderland have agreed a deal worth \u20ac13m (\u20ac12m + \u20ac1m in add-ons) with Getafe. Barring any setbacks, he will be able to make his Premier League debut next weekend.<\/p>\n
For Getafe the sale is part of a continued pattern of defensive departures that have helped the club raise funds. For the second summer in a row, Getafe have managed to bank \u20ac10m+ for a defender, following Gaston Alvarez\u2019s move to Saudi Pro League side Al Qadasiya 12 months ago. The Madrid club needed to raise funds in order to be able to bankroll a spending spree, and the Alderete fee is expected to allow that recruitment phase to commence.<\/p>\n
Sporting priorities at Getafe are now clear. The primary focus will be to find a replacement for Alderete, a player the club regard as a significant loss for head coach Jose Bordalas. After a mixed 2024-25 season that saw Los Azulones finish 13th in La Liga, the sporting department faces pressure to use the incoming funds wisely as the club aims for another good season in 2025-26.<\/p>\n
Getafe are likely to be active in the final weeks of the summer transfer window as they reinvest the money from Alderete\u2019s sale. The coming days should provide clarity on how the club balances bringing in reinforcements while replacing a key defensive presence.<\/p>\n
