Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has made clear Alexander Isak remains a member of the club but is unlikely to be available for the Premier League opener against Aston Villa. Liverpool, having failed with a bid of \u00a3110 million ($147.8 million) earlier in the window, are expected to return with a superior offer if Newcastle indicate a willingness to negotiate.<\/p>\n
Howe said he would prefer a different scenario, but did not foresee the situation resolving before the season begins. \u201cI\u2019d want Alex to be playing today, I\u2019d want him training tomorrow,\u201d Howe explained. \u201cWe would love the player to be with us\u2014let me make that absolutely clear. There\u2019s no part of me that doesn\u2019t want that outcome.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I don\u2019t see that changing before Aston Villa, the current situation we\u2019re in.\u201d<\/p>\n
Isak was absent from the Newcastle squad that drew 2\u20132 with Espanyol on Friday. After the game Howe reiterated that the striker is currently separated from the main group and that talks have taken place since the tour.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve had discussions and it\u2019s clear at the moment we can\u2019t have him involved with the group,\u201d the Newcastle boss continued. \u201cI don\u2019t know how long that will be for. It\u2019s clear I can\u2019t involve him with the team at the moment.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is training later than the rest of the squad. There have been discussions since the tour. I don\u2019t think disciplinary action has happened.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is here, so of course he has a future at Newcastle. From our perspective, we would love to have him back with the team, but the situation has to be right for that to happen.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe doesn\u2019t have a fitness issue. I\u2019m aware of a feeling within the squad that there\u2019s something there not to the benefit of the group.\u201d<\/p>\n
