Rodri has refused to surrender the Premier League title to Arsenal, insisting Manchester City remain a live threat despite trailing by two points. The margin opened after City failed to capitalise on a potential advantage when they drew with Everton earlier this month.<\/p>\n
Arsenal will be crowned champions for the first time in 22 years if they at least match City\u2019s remaining results, but City\u2019s squad have taken heart from recent cup success. City secured the FA Cup at the weekend to complete a domestic cup double for the second time, a result Rodri says has provided a boost.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t lose our calm, still two games to play, they are massive and very, very tough,\u201d the 2024 Ballon d\u2019Or winner told Hayters.<\/p>\n
He added that the title race is far from decided. \u201cEverything can happen. We need [Arsenal] to drop points, which could happen in the next game or the last one. If I was in their position, it\u2019s not easy to finish the task. We have to be there pushing until the end.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rodri pointed to City\u2019s own recent history as evidence that leads can evaporate late on. The reference was to 2021\u201322, when City drew 2\u20132 with West Ham United in the penultimate match after Riyad Mahrez missed a late penalty that might have all but sealed the title. City still arrived at the final day needing only to match Liverpool\u2019s result, but fell two goals behind to Aston Villa before scoring three times in the last 15 minutes to take maximum points and secure the championship.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom our experience we were losing the title against Aston Villa at our home,\u201d Rodri continued. \u201cSo everything can happen in football. We know how difficult it is to close things and we know how difficult it is to beat everyone in this Premier League .\u201d<\/p>\n
Manchester City currently trail by two points and therefore cannot clinch the title before the final day, even if Arsenal were to slip up on Monday and City moved ahead 24 hours later.
