Manchester City have confirmed that centre back Vitor Reis has joined Girona on a season-long loan.<\/p>\n
Reis made four first-team appearances for City, starting twice in the FA Cup and once at the Club World Cup, but struggled to make matchday squads in the final weeks of the season. To aid his development he has moved to Girona, a club within the City Football Group, for the coming campaign.<\/p>\n
The move continues a clear pathway between the two clubs. Reis becomes the 16th player to leave City for a temporary spell with Girona and the first since 2022, when right back Yan Couto and midfielder Yangel Herrera joined Estadi Montilivi on loan. Herrera later made the move permanent the following summer, while Couto\u2019s loan ran until 2024.<\/p>\n
Another January arrival at City, Abdukodir Khusanov, featured 10 times after his mid-season signing and remains one of several options available to manager Pep Guardiola.<\/p>\n
City\u2019s established centre-back group remains R\u00faben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake and John Stones. Jo\u0161ko Gvardiol is also a candidate to play more minutes in a central role following the arrival of left back Rayan A\u00eft-Nouri earlier this summer.<\/p>\n
Squad balance at right back is noted as an area of concern. Guardiola authorised the permanent departure of Kyle Walker to Burnley early in the summer, and Matheus Nunes, a natural midfielder, finished the season as the regular starter at right back. Guardiola is known to hold an interest in Newcastle United\u2019s Tino Livramento.<\/p>\n
