Sunday\u2019s clash between Arsenal and Manchester City has left the Premier League title race poised and fragile. With Arsenal on 70 points and Manchester City on 67, a single slip from either side at this late stage would likely be decisive.<\/p>\n
City are first in action, travelling to Burnley on Wednesday. They will hope not only to pick up three points but to boost their goal difference. Burnley have conceded 67 goals in 33 games and lost the first meeting between these two 5\u20131 in September. That fixture is not actually City\u2019s game in hand. Pep Guardiola\u2019s side are still awaiting confirmation of a date for their visit from Crystal Palace\u2014May 22 has been floated online but has not been formally confirmed.<\/p>\n
If City are to win the title, they will have to work for it. Their other four remaining opponents are all currently sitting in the top 10. Brentford and Bournemouth are both tied on points with Chelsea in sixth, while Everton are only one point back. A visit from Aston Villa on the final day could go either way. Unai Emery\u2019s side may well be hungover from the Europa League final four days earlier if all goes to plan, or they could be desperately scrambling to book a spot in next season\u2019s Champions League. Guardiola will hope it is the former.<\/p>\n
On paper, Arsenal\u2019s run-in is far friendlier. Their upcoming Premier League fixtures after the meeting with City are Newcastle (H) on April 25, Fulham (H) on May 2, West Ham (A) on May 10, Burnley (H) on May 17 and Crystal Palace (A) on May 24. All five opponents are currently in the bottom half of the standings, the exact sort of fixtures Mikel Arteta would want around his two-legged Champions League semifinal against Atl\u00e9tico Madrid.<\/p>\n
Newcastle United and Fulham may be underperforming in the standings, but the congested nature of the table is deceiving. Both sides could easily qualify for Europe and will be tough tests for an Arsenal side picking itself up after a series of bruising results.
