The need to raise money to fund the pursuit of major silverware is presented as the central motive behind the contemplated departures.

Less than $20 million was raised through the sales of Nuno Tavares, Marquinhos, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Albert Sambi Lokonga. “BBC Sport note the need to recoup significant funds this summer.” Fringe names such as Gabriel Jesus and Ben White have been identified as potential candidates for sale, but the possibility that Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly could both be allowed to leave is the most controversial element of the reported plan.

Arsenal are said to view the sale of the homegrown pair as a route to raising over $130 million alone. That approach reflects a broader shift in modern football, where academy talents are often treated as tradable assets. Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are among clubs that have already cashed in, and the piece notes many more may follow.

Supporters are conflicted. While titles and silverware can reconcile fans to an unpopular business model, there is a clear risk of eroding the community feel clubs strive to preserve. At Arsenal, Bukayo Saka is the only permanent member of the current starting XI who came through the academy. Teenage prospect Max Dowman is described as being on the cusp of following him, but similar promise was once attached to both Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly.

Nwaneri, now 19, was hailed as arguably the best player in the country at his age group, while Lewis-Skelly was widely viewed by scouts as the more readymade. An emphasis on immediate success led to experienced options being preferred: Nwaneri’s deputy role to Saka was given to Madueke, and Lewis-Skelly’s left-back spot was shared between Riccardo Calafiori and Hincapié after Mikel Arteta decided the risks of blooding youth were no longer acceptable.

That policy may have helped produce the situation on the field — the Gunners are top of the Premier League and favorites to win the Champions League — but it also risks weakening the club’s future as interest in both youngsters is expected to be strong. Some of Europe’s elite were trying to sign Nwaneri before he renewed his contract, and Lewis-Skelly is already being watched by Manchester United.

Arsenal weigh selling academy stars Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly to fund a title push this summer. 25/26

[192,1163
1446,983,1047
post-11355","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-arsenal","category-transfers","tag-academy","tag-agents","tag-champions-league
["GET
