Mohamed Salah has publicly paid tribute to Andy Robertson following confirmation that the left back will depart Liverpool this summer when his contract expires.<\/p>\n
Salah posted multiple photos of the pair and wrote: “With these pictures showing the bond we shared, I almost felt I could get away with saying nothing about you leaving,” Salah said on social media alongside multiple photos with Robertson over their nine years together. “It\u2019s been an honor to be your teammate and your friend. You\u2019ve won it all and you leave as a legend. I\u2019m sure we will meet again.”<\/p>\n
The exchange follows Robertson\u2019s decision to make his exit public so he can focus on team matters for the remainder of the season. “I just think it\u2019s better being out in the open, that now I can fully focus on the team from now until the end of the season. I think it\u2019s important that I do that, I\u2019ve always done that. But the time to have the emotional farewell and tell the fans and the people connected to this club what they mean to me, that will come closer to the end.<\/p>\n
“I don\u2019t think I\u2019m quite ready for that yet. It\u2019s just to try to get it out there so I can now be open and honest with everyone.”<\/p>\n
Robertson, who replied to Salah with: “Been a hell of a journey my friend,” has been a mainstay at Anfield across nine seasons. “I\u2019ll let other people say if I\u2019m a Liverpool legend or not\u2014I think you know me well enough that I will never accept that,” Robertson told club media.<\/p>\n
At the time of his announcement Robertson sits 36th on Liverpool\u2019s all-time appearance list with 373, and he could still move up during the remainder of the campaign. A reduction in minutes under Arne Slot is cited as part of the context for the departure.<\/p>\n
Across nine years at the club Robertson has won two Premier League titles, two League Cups, one FA Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one Community Shield, one Club World Cup and the 2018\u201319 Champions League. He is widely recognised as one of the club\u2019s most successful signings after his move from Hull City for just \u00a38 million (around $10 million at the time).<\/p>\n
