Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to secure Jo\u00e3o Palhinha on a loan deal this summer. The Portuguese midfielder, who first made his mark at Fulham under Marco Silva from 2022 to 2024, moved to Bayern Munich last year. However, during Vincent Kompany’s inaugural season as Bayern manager, Palhinha featured in just 25 appearances, starting 10 times due to strong competition from mainstays Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka.<\/p>\n
Palhinha\u2019s primary strength is his ability to operate effectively behind a defensive midfielder known for winning possession. This aligns with the vision Tottenham\u2019s new head coach Thomas Frank has for his squad, building upon the qualities that earned Palhinha Fulham’s Player of the Season award in 2022\u201323.<\/p>\n
He becomes the second player to arrive from Bayern Munich at Tottenham this summer, following the permanent signing of Mathys Tel after a loan spell which began in January. Additionally, Tottenham reinforced their midfield with the signing of West Ham United’s Mohamed Kudus this summer.<\/p>\n
At 30 years old, Palhinha will bolster a defensive midfield lineup that includes Rodrigo Bentancur, Archie Gray, Yves Bissouma, and Pape Matar Sar.
